SDS,

I’m posting this here because you wrote in several different places, and I wanted to address your posts.

Honestly, you really sound a lot like JJ. The big difference is that JJ at least had the courage, whether he was right or wrong, to stand up like a man and speak his mind. I have little respect for a coward who posts under an anonymous series of letters. I pity you very much.

My name is Joe Jones. I live in Ojai California. My home phone number and email address are found at my web site at the end. Be a man (or be a woman for that matter) and step up to the plate. If you’re feeling froggie, jump. I’m not hiding.

I’ll address your “points.” But please let me know if they are unclear. Perhaps I can draw a picture for you.

On 1983 vs. 1985

The reference to 1983 was not a reference to when Melaleuca started. 20 years ago it was 1983. I was saying the industry is different than it was 20 years ago.

Melaleuca as we know them today became a business in 1985. but, as you are aware, Frank had some trouble getting his business off the ground. Look a little bit more into Oil of Melaleuca, Inc., which went was a failure (see “Melaleuca Story”, Chapter One).

On the first Network Marketing Business to ship products directly to a customer (not through a direct distributor"):

I have publicly criticized Mr. Vandersloot for saying 2 things. First, that Melaleuca was not an MLM company. Second, that all MLM are scams. I’ve never criticized him for anything else. I’ve never mentioned anything else. My criticism here has been limited to that.

While I doubt that Melaleuca was the first Network Marketing company to ship products direct, it really doesn’t matter. Even if they were, the fact that almost all MLM companies can and do ship products direct to consumers today makes this “distinction” irrelevant.

While we’re thanking people, all of us should thank Amway for having the money and resources in the late 70s to challenge the FTC and win.

On keeping an inventory of business kits:

So kits costs $29.00. Which would make the out-of-pocket investment for the 8-10 inventory more than I said it would. The out-of-pocket for the inventory is more like $232-$290. My mistake.

Listen, I don’t think there is anything wrong with this. In fact, it is smart business. Just don’t kid yourself that this is not keeping an inventory. It is. If you buy 10 kits, and sign up 10 people that month, you will get all your money back. But you still needed the inventory in the first place. And you still need to tie the money up.

And if it is in fact a revolving account, meaning that for every $29 check you get when you sell someone a kit from your inventory, you send that money back to the company for another kit, then your $232-$290 is tied up until you stop buying kits.

One more thing, because you are misinformed about the law. In no MLM company should any company or distributor make money from selling business kits or tools. That is illegal. It’s being done by a couple of companies, but that’s not right. Heck, even my magic potion MLM doesn’t do it.

On whether I’m qualified

Look, if something looks like a duck, walks like a duck, sounds like a duck, and swims like a duct, even someone who is not trained to study ducks can make an informed conclusion that the thing is a duck.

Melaleuca is a Network Marketing Company, with Multiple Levels of Marketing Executives receiving compensation for product/service purchases. Quack, Quack.

On the DSA

Here is something that needs to be addressed. Why does Melaleuca’s listing on the DSA web site say their compensation is “single level” when in fact, it’s compensation is Multi-level?

On “jumping” from deal to deal

Like my friend JJ, who posts here often, I made the best decision for my family. JJ still builds a Melaleuca business. But he also started posting a few months ago with a link or two for AmeriPlan, and even talked about earning $500 or so one month.

JJ made the decision to build both businesses (last time I heard from him). And he made the right decision for his family and for himself.

As for me, I don’t think I jump from deal to deal. I reached a point in Oxyfresh where the company just didn’t work for me anymore. It happens. And it took me over 4 months of prayer to decide to leave. People change jobs, cars, homes, clothes, hairstyles, and yes, even business opportunities. If you lose respect for me, that’s fine. That’s your right.

All the best, even to you,

Joe Jones
